πŸ• Who am I?

I am Thomas Altenburger (aka MrHelmut), and I've been working in video games for almost a decade now.

I currently am all-rounder at Flying Oak Games, and it's now been seven years of making indie games there. I directed the rogue-lite games NeuroVoider and ScourgeBringer, and also helped friends getting their game out such as Bury me, my Love.

I went through all kinds of emotions and had to manage a bunch of things to get our games out. We worked with publishers, we worked without them. We had failures, we had successes. We had bad times, as well as very good ones, and likely lots of stories and feedback to share.

I gave a few talks here and there about our experiences, most of which can be found on this Youtube playlist.

You can contact me through my email (thomas(at)flying-oak.com) or on Twitter.

I speak English πŸ‡¬πŸ‡§πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ and French πŸ‡«πŸ‡·, and I live in France (CET timezone).

πŸ‘€ Overview

Things are cool on my side, and I feel the need to reconnect with people, to share and to empower. I would like to offer free feedback in the form of 1-hour discussions, around the topic(s) of your choice.

I am no self-made person and there are people who trusted me, gave me their time despite hardly having time for themselves, and that meant a lot in regard to how I built myself as a person and how we got there. I don't pretend to be omniscient about games, nor that our experience is representative to how things should go (every context is different), but maybe hearing about others perspective might give you some hints toward how to set your own path.

The idea is that every week I will be trying to sync with someone and take some time to discuss with you on the topic(s) of your choice. In any cases, if I feel irrelevant on a topic, I can always connect you with someone else cool on the matter. Topics might be (and are not limited to):
